Student Support Programs

DSF wants every college student to successfully complete a college degree or certificate. Below are some helpful resources and programs that are available at CSM.

  • MEP: Multicultural Engineering Program ACHIEVE Leaders – promotes the ongoing commitment Mines has to create a more diverse and inclusive learning community. Works to enroll, retain, and graduate under-represented students, and continue to build a community of support through many partnerships.
  • PHirst Scholars – PHirst is a themed learning community (TLC) specifically for first generation college students at Mines. Its residential model allows first generation students at Mines to forge meaningful connections with peers.
  • Themed Learning Communities (TLCs) – enhance your living experience on campus and while there will be lots of opportunities for you to get involved, this experience is what you make of it, and it is meant to make your entire Mines experience better, by supporting you in your academic endeavors, not taking time away from what you need to spend on your work. The TLCs are open to any incoming first year student.
  • Lead at Mines – built on a foundation of intentionality and collaboration with great care taken to develop the whole student and their ability to be thoughtful, self-aware visionaries in the engineering and applied science fields. This program challenges students to explore their leadership potential as they develop effective methods for communication and problem solving through their co-curricular involvements and through balance in their educational pursuits.
  • Summer Multicultural Engineering Training (SUMMET) program – is an engineering, science and technology program designed for rising juniors and seniors who are from underrepresented populations, including ethnic/racial minorities, women and prospective first-generation college students.
  • Themed Learning Communities (TLCS)Enhance your living experience on campus and while there will be lots of opportunities for you to get involved, this experience is what you make of it, and it is meant to make your entire Mines experience better, by supporting you in your academic endeavors, not taking time away from what you need to spend on your work. The TLCs are open to any incoming first year student.
  • Thorson First Year Honors Program The Thorson First-Year Honors Experience is a unique and collaborative approach to learning that uses real-world problems to introduce students to the roles engineers and scientists play in a fast-changing world.
  • SWE: Society of Women Engineers – SWE’s mission is to inspire women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.
  • WISEM: Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics Program – The Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics Office was founded in 1997 through a generous grant from Chevron Corporation. Designed to enhance opportunities for women on campus, WISEM’s mission is to enhance opportunities for women in engineering and applied science careers and to increase the recruitment, retention and graduation of women students.
  • PASCAL Center for Scholarship Communities – PASCAL Center works to develop, advance and steward scholarship communities and professional development at Mines. PASCAL directly manages scholarship communities, promotes and programs professional development opportunities with campus partners, and meaningfully engages with alumni and donors.
  • Center for Academic Success and Advising (CASA) – The Center for Academic Success and Advising provides one-on-one academic advising, academic support, peer tutoring and coaching for all students at Mines.
  • First Year Innovation and Research Scholar Training (FIRST) research Fellowship – FIRST Fellowship offers an opportunity for select, highly motivated first-year students to participate in original research experiences coupled with a focus on innovation.
