DSF Alum Dr. Adele Collins

DSF Alumni Doctor & Mentor Begins Residency in Cincinnati

Jul 13, 2023

Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) Alum Dr. Adele Collins graduated from University of Colorado School of Medicine this May and thanks DSF for being a valuable resource from the beginning of her education journey. Adele went to North High School and graduated from the University of Denver (DU) with a major in Molecular Biology in the pre-medical track. She is a first-generation college graduate who relied on the support from DSF to navigate the college-going process. Adele’s college journey started at the DSF Future Center at North High School, where with the help of her DSF College Advisor, Adele applied to college, searched and submitted applications to many scholarships, practiced interview skills, and learned more about the financial aid process. “DSF was a resource for me, either in one aspect or another. DSF was there to help in my journey to become a doctor,” said Dr. Collins.

After graduating from DU, she became interested in Medical School when she worked as an EMT Tech. The hands-on experience there helped her understand what to expect as a doctor., Adele later enrolled in Medical School at the University of Colorado (CU School of Medicine). Her journey at CU School of Medicine was high-speed and challenging. Her days were busy with multiple classes and clinical rotations, where she would spend her time as a medical team member learning and applying her knowledge with each medical specialty. After Adele found her community and saw that everyone was adjusting to the new workload and learning process, she found her new pace. Adele earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at the University of Colorado Medical School in May 2023. After graduating this summer, Adele started her residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This program was one of Adele’s top choices because she will be helping minorities and underserved populations.

Adele’s willingness to serve her community goes above and beyond, as she is also part of the DSF Mentorship Program. Where she has continued her learning and practiced her learning by teaching others, she mentored DSF Scholar VasiLisa Fadeyeva, majoring in Occupational Therapy at Colorado State University. As doctors recommend occupational therapy, the learning was mutual, as Adele learned so much from VasiLisa. Join DSF in congratulating Dr. Adele Collins on this incredible milestone and wish her an exceptional time in Cincinnati and beyond.
