Jesus Yañez

Campus Advisor, Metropolitan State University

Jesus is a proud son of immigrants and a first-generation college graduate. Earning his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Creighton University and his master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jesus is passionate about demystifying higher education, particularly for first generation students and students who hold minoritized identities.

Raised in Westminster, Colorado, Jesus spent a lot of time learning about nonprofits as a teenager. Volunteering his time and learning about philanthropy was the start of his advocacy work. His passion for finding opportunities for students to grow personally, academically and professionally has been a driving force in his career. As a Campus Advisor for the Denver Scholarship Foundation Jesus is ecstatic to continue that advocacy work in his own community as he aims to remove barriers to success for his students. Witnessing his students discover their potential and reach their dreams is Jesus’s favorite part of working in education. In his free time you can find Jesus coaching soccer, spending time with friends or family, or walking his dog Mocha.
