Jaya was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee and moved to Colorado two years ago, bringing with her a deep passion for social justice and advocacy. Inspired by her own experiences navigating systemic barriers, she set out to create more equitable opportunities for underserved communities. With a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Jaya has always been fascinated by mental health and human behavior. Over the past year, she interned with the public defender’s office, working closely with in-custody clients facing mental health challenges. She’s also spent time volunteering with nonprofits focused on mental health treatment, strengthening her commitment to advocacy and support. Now pursuing her Master of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Jaya is excited to step into her role as a DSF intern this year. She’s passionate about expanding access to resources and opportunities for students and is looking forward to making a meaningful impact through education and advocacy.
