James Cousin is the Chief Financial Officer of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), where he has served since 2001. In this role, he is responsible for accounting, human resources, information technology, business intelligence, facilities management, healthcare facilities sales, and oversight of the AORN Surgical Conference & Expo, one of the top 150 national conventions in the United States.
Based in Denver, Colorado, AORN and its subsidiaries generate approximately $38 million in annual revenue. AORN is a national nonprofit membership organization supporting more than 200,000 perioperative nurses through education, standards development, and clinical practice resources. The association has over 40,000 registered nurse members engaged in the management, education, and practice of perioperative nursing.
James has more than 37 years of finance and accounting experience across healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, Fortune 500 oil and gas, and public accounting, including service with a Big Four CPA firm. He holds an MBA from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from California State University, Long Beach. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of California (inactive as of November 2025).
James has served on multiple boards of directors, including Delta Dental of Colorado (past Board Chair, 2020–present), Denver Scholarship Foundation (2020–2025), Vectra Bank Advisory Board (2016–2024), True Light Baptist Church (2012–2017), My Rounding LLC (2015–2016), Warren Village (2004–2005), and New Hope Baptist Church (1999–2006).
