TRIO Talent Search Program

The Denver Scholarship Foundation’s TRIO Talent Search program inspires and empowers low-income, first generation students to complete high school and enroll in and complete postsecondary education.

This free program serves 9th through 12th grade students, providing academic, career and financial aid advising and experiences to encourage education beyond high school. The TRIO Talent Search program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Participants of the program are actively engaged in activities throughout the school year including: college visits, career experiences/exposure, cultural enrichment trips, access to tutoring resources, and more. Students also participate in personal, academic, financial aid, financial literacy, test preparation, self-advocacy and more.

The Denver Scholarship Foundation’s TRIO Talent Search program aims to serve 9th through 12th grade students throughout Denver’s community.

We offer services at the following locations:

Bruce Randolph School
CEC Early College
Manual High School
Montbello Career and Technical High School
Montbello High School
Northeast Early College
North Engagement Center
North High School
West High School

For the 2022-2023 school year, the TRIO program is expected to serve over 1,500 students. The following students are eligible to apply for the program.

Students who attend a DPS school served by the TRIO program, with a desire to attend a college or university after high school, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to make this dream come true;
Those with a need for the program (i.e. a challenging academic environment, tutoring, career exploration, study skills, goal setting, motivation and encouragement);
A student in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade;
Students who make a long term commitment to the program, remaining involved until graduation from high school;
Students who are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident, regardless of parents’ citizenship status;
Individuals who meet at least one of the two criteria below:
1. A potential first generation college student (A student is considered first generation if neither parent or guardian with whom the student lives has not completed a four year college degree);
2. The student’s family meets federal income guidelines. (Based on “taxable income” [Line 43 on the IRS 1040, Line 6 on the 1040EZ, line 27 on the 1040A forms] of the parent/guardian that the student currently lives with, and the number of people in the household).

NOTE: Any student applicant that is currently in foster care, or a Ward of the State of Colorado, is automatically income eligible.
