College Essays:

You will be asked to write essays for college and scholarship applications. Here are some resources to help you brainstorm, write, and edit your essays.

Letters of Recommendation:

Request a letter of recommendation from a teacher that can speak highly of your academic potential and also of your character as a person. Think strategically about who you ask to write you a letter of recommendation and try not to ask more than two teachers for a recommendation.

Resume:

Keep track of all your high school activities. Colleges and scholarships may ask that you provide a list of the activities you participated in throughout your high school career.

Applying for financial Assistance

Tips and tricks to making college a little more affordable.

Free application for federal student aid (FAFSA) / College Scholarship service (CSS) Profile

Create your FAFSA/CSS Profile

Your first step in applying and qualifying for financial aid will be to complete the FAFSA—and at some schools, the CSS profile. Gather the following information in order to complete the FAFSA. Once you gather this information, check-in with your DSF Future Center Advisor on setting up an appointment to complete the FAFSA accurately.

CASFA (Colorado application Aid)

Financial aid for DACA or Undocumented Students

Students who are non-citizens may complete an institutional financial aid application for their college of choice.

Scholarships.
Apply. Apply. Apply.

The cost of postsecondary education increases each year, but there are many ways to reduce what you will pay. The best way to minimize your cost is to apply for scholarships. Scholarships will each have their own application requirements, including GPA, test scores, ethnicity, community service hours, and leadership potential.

Scholarship Directory:

Explore our scholarship directory and find links to other scholarship search engines.

Merit Based Scholarship:

The best places to apply for scholarships are at the universities in which you applied for admission. You will only be competing against other students who were also admitted to that particular institution.

Organization Scholarships:

Many different organizations may offer scholarship money to students. These organizations could be nonprofits, parents’ employers, banks, sororities, fraternities, or social advocacy organizations.

Learn More about DSF

DSF Alumni

For many first-generation college students that Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) serves, it can be intimidating navigating the journey to and through college completion. For DSF alumna Liloni S. Ramos, she felt grateful that she had a DSF advisor who she could go to with any questions. “I knew I had access to resources and knowledge, because I was a DSF Scholar. The connection from high school to college helped me feel more confident in my education journey.”
