DSF Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with DSF! Below is a list of opportunities that may be available throughout the year. While we are grateful for and appreciate all community members interested in supporting Denver Scholarship Foundation through volunteering, we strive to engage individuals who are representative of the student population that DSF serves.
Further your community impact as a VOLUNTEER
| Opportunity | Time Commitment | In-Person or Remote | Community Served | Summary |
| Career Exposure Events & Workshops | 1-2 hours per event | In-Person and Virtual | DPS high school students and DSF Scholars | Throughout the academic year, there are many opportunities to engage and support students in their career exploration and development. These opportunities may include being a panelist or speed-mentor for industry-specific events, or supporting workshops related to mock interviews, resume review, building LinkedIn profiles, etc. These opportunities are primarily made available to DSF’s corporate and community partners. |
| Snack and Supply Drive |
1-2 hours for donation drop-off
|
Off-Site Activity (with in-person drop-off) | DPS high school students and DSF Scholars | Snacks can drive engagement. It is much easier to encourage students to visit DSF Future Centers and meet with advisors when food is available. This is a great opportunity for a group to collect non-perishable snacks and needed supplies and deliver them to either one or multiple of DSF’s 15 Future Centers across DPS, the Auraria Campus, or the DSF office (where they will be distributed to DSF’s student-facing locations). These opportunities are primarily made available to DSF’s corporate and community partners. |
| Special Events | Dependent on Event | In-Person | Wider DSF Community |
DSF events are designed to support student’s needs, celebrate their accomplishments, and/or engage members of our broader community in DSF’s mission and work. Examples of events include: · Homecoming Gala · Scholar Summit · DSF & DPS Explores Auraria |
| Career Success Coaching | 6 months | Virtual | DSF Scholars | Being a Career Success Coach would include meeting with Scholars in a 1:1 monthly virtual setting over 6 months, to support Scholars in becoming competitive in the job market. Each month’s meeting will have a specific coaching focus and initial training will be required. Start time is flexible. |

Essay/Personal Statement Review
|
Full Semester to Full Academic Year
|
In-Person | DPS high school students | Volunteers interested and experienced in reviewing essays and personal statements will provide in-person support to high school students as they prepare for college. The academic year 2024-2025 will be a pilot year for this opportunity, with a goal of expanding the program in future years. Volunteers will be trained and connected with DSF Future Centers needing support. Volunteers may support multiple Future Centers, depending on need. |
| DSF Mentorship Program | Full Academic year | In-Person | DSF Scholars | Community members who have the availability for an academic year-long commitment (September-May) and are interested in supporting Scholars and Alumni in a 1:1 setting with career and professional development may apply for the DSF Mentorship Program during the open application window each spring. Throughout the program, there will also be monthly in-person gatherings with the larger group of mentors and mentees. |
| Financial Aid Volunteer Corps | Full Academic Year | In-Person | DPS high school students and DSF Scholars | The Financial Aid Volunteer Corps is a group of individuals committed for one full academic year to supporting students and their families with completing the FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. FAFSA completion is an essential step in the college application process, a strong predictor for postsecondary enrollment, and therefore a critical step for the students served by DSF’s programs. This group will be required to complete 15 hours of training over a semester (August-December), followed by supporting in-person FAFSA workshops for about 10 hours a month during peak season (January-May). In this role, volunteers will gain expertise about the FAFSA and how to directly guide students and their families through the process. |
