Maria was born in Mexico City and migrated to the United States at the age of 9. She has called Colorado her home for 18 years and considers herself a native. Maria earned a bachelor of science degree in Mathematics from Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU) and is the first in her family to go to college. During her time at MSU, Maria worked at the Institute for Women’s Studies and Services, where she developed an intersectional feminist lens and helped serve underrepresented students and community members. Maria is DACAmented. Her college pathway was anything but traditional, and she is dedicated to creating a more accessible pathway for students like her. Maria provides support to the student services efforts at Denver Scholarship Foundation as a scholarship data coordinator and is excited to use her analytical skills to create a more equitable Denver.
