Dr. Robert D. Coombe

Dr. Coombe is Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Denver. A faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry for many years, he also served as Chair of that department, Dean of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering, Provost, and for the final 9 years of his tenure at DU as Chancellor of the University. During his time as Chancellor he served on a number of Boards including those of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. He was a member of the Higher Education Working Group of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Colorado Forum and Colorado Concern. Dr. Coombe holds a bachelor’s degree from Williams College and a doctorate in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. He is the author or co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in science journals and books, and holds two U.S. patents.
