Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) is proud to continue our partnership with Group14 Engineering, a B Corp and Certified Just Denver-based consulting firm committed to improving the energy and resource efficiency of buildings.
Many Group14 employees are Denver Public Schools (DPS) graduates, so supporting local public schools is important to who they are as an organization. As a B Corp, they are committed to giving 1% of net profits to groups that support Group14’s mission of energy and sustainability, while supporting employee giving at the same time.
DSF Scholar Luis A. Munoz, a Denver School of Innovation and Sustainable Design (DSISD) graduate and current junior at the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder, continues this strong partnership with Group14 by serving as one of their interns. He first heard about the internship through DSF and the Bold Center at CU. Studying environmental engineering, he was drawn to the opportunity because of Group14’s commitment to sustainable practices to combat climate change. Throughout the internship he has learned much more about what actions are needed to make an impact on this area.
Outside of his internship, Luis understands the importance of continuing his education. Although he has always been academically inclined and has loved science from a young age, he said his mom always pushed him to be a first-generation college graduate. He also recognizes the barriers to attending college, many of which are financial. Without scholarships like the one he receives from DSF, he said it would be difficult for him to attend school.
As for advice on attending college, he recommends putting yourself out there, trying new things, and talking to as many different people as you can. He says you should surround yourself with people from many different backgrounds to give you a lot of different perspectives.
DSF is proud to support students like Luis, much of which is possible due to the generous investments by partners like Group14.
