Sustainability, connectivity, and visibility. These are the main pillars of Denver Scholarship Foundation’s (DSF) new Associate Board, formed in August 2020. The mission of the Associate Board is to raise awareness and funds to support the efforts of DSF. For Mike Kelly, the Chair of the Associate Board, it is also a way to be a catalyst for systemic change.
“After doing volunteer work at a food pantry and social service organizations early in my career in Chicago, I recognized a common issue as we served our clients—the lack of education and support they received in the Chicago Public Schools system,” says Mike. “I believe the greatest thing we can give to people is access and support as it relates to education.”
Mike is excited to share DSF’s successes with the community. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Denver Public Schools students served by DSF continue to navigate their way in postsecondary education and the workforce. “The Associate Board will bring to light the good work DSF accomplishes to our close networks and through connections in the community.”
The Associate Board’s Role
The Associate Board’s primary focus is to open doors with the community and business leaders in Colorado to support DSF. Associate Board members will host events throughout the year to promote and raise awareness of DSF’s mission. The board is also directly supporting DSF students and Scholars by participating in career panels, hosting lunch and learns, volunteering for resume review events, and connecting Scholars to internship and job opportunities.
The Associate Board members are an integral part in inspiring and empowering Denver Public Schools students to enroll in and graduate from post secondary institutions of higher education, by providing the tools, knowledge, and financial resources essential for success.
