Celebrating our Graduates

A reason to celebrate

Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) had a blast celebrating our Scholars at the DSF Graduation Celebration on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at City Park Pavilion. This annual event gives us the chance to congratulate our graduating Scholars on their achievements. Similarly, it allows us to welcome our newest class of incoming scholarship recipients and their families into the DSF community. On behalf of our DSF Alumni, staff, board members, College Partners, and other supporters, congratulations!

Sharing words of wisdom

First, DSF College Advisor Myrna Hernandez kicked off the event program. She shared how her journey from Scholar to staff member prepared her to serve students at North High School through the TRIO program.

Next, Governor Jared Polis took the stage. Special thanks to Governor Polis for joining us, and sharing words of wisdom with Scholars. DSF is grateful for your strong support of our three-part program of college access, scholarships, and college success. Your support helps make college possible for Denver’s students!

We also heard from DSF Scholar Seraphine Nguyen, a recent graduate of the University of Denver, about how DSF helped make college possible for her and her siblings. After participating in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) through high school and college, the next part of Seraphine’s journey takes her to Oklahoma where she will complete basic training. From there, she will embark on a two-year assignment in Korea with the Army. Congratulations Seraphine!

Nathan Cadena, chief operating officer, and Michelle Camacho Liu, director of college success, announced that DSF selected Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) as the recipient of this year’s DSF College Partner of the Year award. Of our 31 College Partners, MSU Denver continues to serve the largest group of DSF Scholars. MSU Denver staff have collaborated with DSF to develop and grow additional support and services on campus. Our strong partnership, which created the DSF Leadership Program at MSU Denver, and supports the COSI Community Partnership program, has produced many positive outcomes for Scholars and staff alike. Congratulations MSU Denver, and thank you for your partnership. Read more about the partnership here.
