In 2010, Patty and Mike Starzer began a partnership with Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) to help make college possible for Denver’s students. Today, as visionary leaders with a profound commitment to DSF Scholars, the Starzers serve as a cornerstone of DSF’s mission and an example to the Denver community.

As generous champions of DSF’s Annual Gala for many years, the Starzers will once again serve as Presenting Sponsor for Annual Gala 2018 on October 11.

Their devotion to the education of Denver’s youth extends far beyond the DSF Annual Gala stage. Patty and Mike have generously provided additional support for DSF Scholars at Colorado School of Mines (Mines)—a DSF College Partner and the Starzers’ alma mater—who face significant burdens of debt beyond what the DSF Scholarship and financial aid could alleviate. Mike also serves on the DSF Board of Directors, and Patty has served as a great friend and advocate for DSF at Mines as a the first woman appointment to the Mines Foundation Board of Governors.

“Our own success was made possible largely because of the excellent education we received at the Colorado School of Mines,” Mike said.

Compelled by a conviction that all students should have access to quality education like that which they received, Patty and Mike have supported many campus initiatives. These include Marquez Hall and the Starzer Welcome Center; additionally, they established an endowed scholarship fund, served as co-chairs of The Parents Fund, and are longtime supporters of The Mines Fund.

Through their philanthropic leadership, the Starzers demonstrate their belief in the value of college access.

“Patty and I support DSF because we believe there is no more important cause than the education of our youth,” Mike said. “We know that each young DSF Scholar will go on to do great things because they are empowered with a great education.”

Mike is the chairman and chief executive officer of Fifth Creek Energy Company and the director of HighPoint Resources Corporation. The Starzers support several philanthropic and nonprofit organizations. Mike serves on the board of trustees for the Denver ACE Scholarship Foundation. Patty and Mike served as co-chairs for the 2015 Denver Heart Walk with the American Heart Association. In 2012, they formed the Michael R. and Patricia K. Starzer Scholarship Endowment Fund at Mines to provide scholarships for undergraduate education. Mike serves on the board of Alpha-Omega Seminary and is a past councilman and treasurer for Calvary Bible Church. The Starzers are members of Gideons International and have served in executive positions for the organization. Mike also served as director and finance committee chairman for Bakersfield Christian High School.

We are grateful for our long-term partnership with Patty and Mike Starzer. We thank them for their support!
